Compiled by MiCHO StaffThe Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League announced recently that they have signed 19-year-old defenseman Kevin Connauton.
Connauton played last season at Western Michigan, where he had seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points in 40 games in his freshman year. Connauton played in the Alberta Junior Hockey League during the 2007-08 season with Spruce Grove where he had 45 points in 56 games.
Born in Edmonton, Connauton was drafted in June by the Vancouver Canucks, 83rd overall in the third round at the NHL draft in Montreal.
Giants GM Scott Bonner feels Connauton could be an impact player.
"It’s exciting to add a big, highly skilled d-man like Kevin," said Bonner. "Kevin will continue a solid tradition of excellence on the Giants blueline, started by players like Meszaros, Franson and most recently, John Blum."
The 6-foot-2, 205 pound Connauton also expressed his excitement at playing in the WHL.
“I am looking forward to joining the Giants and becoming a part of what is a great winning tradition in the Western Hockey League," said Connauton.
