Hunwick, UM blank Notre Dame Thursday

By Matt Mackinder/Michigan Beat Writer

Michigan celebrated Senior Night with a 4-0 shutout of Notre Dame last night at Yost Ice Arena in the opening game of a home-and-home series with the Irish.

Chad Langlais, Matt Rust, senior captain Chris Summers and Brian Lebler all had a goal and an assist for the Wolverines, while Bryan Hogan and Shawn Hunwick combined for 20 saves.

Hunwick (pictured) made 14 of those stops after coming in for Hogan at the 10:49 mark of the first period. Hogan injured himself sliding from his left to his right making a save.

"From the beginning, coach has called me the relief pitcher and different things," said Hunwick. "He has told me to always be ready and prepare all week like I'm going to play. Me and Blackie (goalie coach Josh Blackburn) prepare like I'm going to play and I just always try to stay sharp."

Summers commented on possibly playing his last-ever game at Yost.

"Knowing it could be the last game we play at Yost definitely takes a toll on your emotions," he said. "Maybe you get a little too antsy, but I think the most important thing was that we stayed calm and confident. I enjoyed the experience and really embraced and soaked it all in."

The Wolverines (19-16-1, 14-12-1-0 CCHA) finish up the staggered home-and-home series in South Bend on Saturday night. The final game of the regular season for both teams will begin at 7:05 p.m. and will be televised by the Big Ten Network.
