Lakers bounced from playoffs by Irish

By Bob Miller/Lake Superior State Beat Writer

They had a trip to next weekend's CCHA playoff championship semifinal round right in their grasp, but Lake Superior State just couldn't quite put the nail in Notre Dame's playoff coffin last weekend.

After losing a heart-breaking Friday night opener against the Fighting Irish in overtime, the Lakers battled back gamely to take Saturday night's rematch in South Bend, 4-3.

Finally, though, it was Notre Dame who prevailed in Sunday's decisive game, 4-2, effectively ending the Lakers' season.

Kevin Kapalka totaled 95 saves over the three-game series, continuing his solid play.

Fred Cassiani lead the Laker offensive charge in the series with three goals, while Chad Nehring chipped in two.

Lake Superior finishes the season at 13-17-9 overall (8-12-8 CCHA).
