Michigan sweeps BGSU, loses Wohlberg

By Bob Miller/Michigan Beat Writer

Even though Bowling Green battled right through to the end, Michigan breezed to a two-game sweep of the Falcons in their quarterfinal CCHA playoff series at Yost Arena last weekend.

The Wolverines move on to face Western Michigan in one semifinal game on Friday at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit while Notre Dame and Miami meet in the other semifinal matchup. The winners of those two games meet in the championship final Saturday evening.

Five different goal scorers hit the back of the net for the Wolverines in their opening game 5-1 victory Friday night. David Wohlberg, Chris Brown, Scooter Vaughan, Lindsay Sparks and Luke Moffatt scored singles for Michigan.

Unfortunately for the Wolverines, Wohlberg was lost for the season late in the contest with a broken collarbone.

Defenseman Lee Moffie scored twice for Michigan in Saturday night's 4-1 series-clinching win for the Wolverines.

“Well, I’m the glad the game is over,” said Michigan coach Red Berenson after Saturday's game. “I’m glad the series is over. I’m glad our seniors don’t have to play another game here. I don’t think we scored on our best chances, but we played hard."
