Ferris State, Michigan both ranked in USCHO poll

Both Ferris State and Michigan are ranked in this week's USCHO.com Division I Men's Poll.

The Bulldogs fall four spots to sit eighth this week, while the Wolverines also tumble four places to No. 14.

Ferris State split with St. Lawrence last week, while Michigan split with New Hampshire.

Wolverines and Bulldogs ranked in Top 10

The Michigan Wolverines and Ferris State Bulldogs come into the 2015-2015 season ranked 8th and 9th in the country, according to the USCHO.com Division I Men's hockey poll.

Wolverines and Bulldogs Rank 3-4

The Michigan Wolverines were off of game action all week, but hold onto the #3 spot in the USCHO.com Division I Men's Poll for the third week in a row. 

In the in-state battle of ranked teams, Ferris State went on the road to the Taffy Abel Arena in the Sault and swept Lake Superior.

The Bulldogs scored four first period goals on Friday and dropped the Lakers, 5-3.

FSU exploded for another pair in the opening period on Saturday and held off the Lakers, 3-1, to move to 13-2-2 on the year and move up two spots to #4.

LSSU falls three spots to #17 with a record of 9-6-1.  

In the USCHO.com Division III Men's Poll, Adrian went into the week as #3 and grabbed 3 of 4 points on the road at Marian. The Bulldogs are now 10-0-1 overall on the year.

Michigan at No. 3 in latest USCHO Poll

The Michigan Wolverines had a light week, but still hold down the third spot in the latest USCHO.com Division I Men's Poll.

Andrew Copp notched the game-winner for the the Maize and Blue (9-2-1) at 3:38 of OT at Yost on Friday night to defeat the Ohio State Buckeyes in their only game action of the week.

The Ferris State Bulldogs (11-2-2) grabbed three of four points over the weekend from the Northern Michigan Wildcats on the road at the Berry Events Center and hold steady in sixth place.

Lake Superior also cracks the top-20 with an overall record of 9-4-1.

The 14th ranked Lakers celebrated Thanksgiving with a pair of 4-3 victories over the Bowling Green Falcons at the Taffy Abel Arena.

In the USCHO.com Division III Men's Poll, the Adrian Bulldogs are ranked third with a perfect 9-0-0 record.

CCHA releases 2012-2013 Preseason Polls

For the fifth time in seven years, the coaches and media disagree on who should own the No. 1 position in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association’s annual preseason polls. The conference’s 11 head coaches ranked Notre Dame first for the second consecutive season, while voting from 87 members of the media tabbed Michigan as the preseason favorite.

In the coaches poll, the Fighting Irish captured seven first-place votes and one second, while Michigan took two first-place votes as well as six seconds to come in just five points behind the favorite. Western Michigan, last season’s CCHA Tournament Champion, had the remaining first-place votes to finish third, just three points behind Michigan and eight behind the Irish. Miami finished fourth in the poll while the 2011-12 CCHA Regular-Season Champion and National Runner-Up Ferris State rounded out the top five.

 

The media voted in favor of Michigan, with Western Michigan coming in second and Notre Dame in third, agreeing with the coaches on which three teams should occupy top three. The Wolverines picked up 50 of a possible 87 first-place votes, while the Broncos garnered 25 and the Irish received nine first-place votes. The Bulldogs and RedHawks finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the media poll as well.

 

The Wolverines, who finished in second place in the regular season, return 20 letterwinners that took them to their 22^nd consecutive NCAA tournament. Included in that list is a pair of defensemen that were named to a Preseason All-Conference Team, with junior Jon Merrill being named to the first team and senior Lee Moffie earning a second-team selection. Michigan also returns seven of its top ten scorers, including last season’s Rookie of the Year, Alex Guptill, who tied for the team lead in scoring a season ago, notching 16 goals and 33 points.

 

Notre Dame also brings back 20 letterwinners from the 2011-12 season, which saw the Irish finish eighth in the conference. The Irish return their top two scorers in junior forwards T.J. Tynan, last season’s Scoring Co-Champion, and Anders Lee. Both are CCHA Preseason All-Conference First-Team selections and combined for 30 goals and 75 points last season.

 

The Broncos are the defending CCHA Mason Cup champion and return 15 letterwinners, including a trio of CCHA Preseason All-Conference First Team selections: junior Chase Balisy at forward, junior Dan DeKeyser on defense and sophomore Frank Slubowski in goal. Western Michigan returns their top offensive line of Balisy, junior Shane Berschbach and senior Dane Walters. The trio combined to score 39 goals and 98 points last season, making up almost one-third of the Broncos’ scoring.

 

Miami is coming off a fourth place finish and returns a young roster of 18 underclassmen, including three freshmen goaltenders. The RedHawks return their second-highest scorer from last season in sophomore forward Austin Czarnik, a Preseason All-Conference Second Team selection. Ferris State hopes to build off last season’s success, returning 18 letterwinners, including three of their top five scorers.

 

A total of 87 media members ranked the 11 CCHA teams in projected order of finish for the regular season. Points were awarded on an 11-10-9-8, etc., basis. League coaches ranked the CCHA teams, excluding their own school, in the order they predicted the regular season will end.

MiCHO Power Poll 12.01.2010

Michigan holds steady at the top spot in this week's MiCHO Power Poll.

The Wolverines, ranked 11th nationally by USCHO, dropped both ends of the College Hockey Showcase last weekend at Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Western Michigan, USCHO's 19th team in the nation, split with Miami and sit in the No. 2 spot this week, followed by national No. 20 Ferris State, MiCHO's No. 3 team after beating Michigan State eight days ago.

The struggling Spartans are No. 4 this week, followed by Northern Michigan at five, Michigan Tech at No. 6 and Lake Superior State in the seventh spot.

CCHA coaches pick Wolverines

For the third time in four years, the coaches and media disagree over who should own the No. 1 position in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association’s annual preseason polls. The conference’s 11 head coaches ranked defending CCHA tournament champion Michigan first, while 75 media members named defending regular-season champion Miami as the preseason favorite.

In the coaches poll, the Wolverines captured eight of a possible 10 first-place votes and two seconds, while Miami took the three remaining first-place votes as well as seven seconds to come in just five points behind the favorite. Alaska took third with Michigan State finishing five points back at fourth.

The media voted in favor of the RedHawks, giving them 57 first-place votes to Michigan’s 17. The Spartans garnered a single first-place ranking and nine seconds to place third, with Alaska finishing fourth with two seconds and 22 thirds. Both the coaches and the media ranked Notre Dame at No. 5.

The Wolverines, who became the lowest-seeded team in league history to win the CCHA tournament after finishing the regular season in seventh place, return 19 letterwinners including senior goaltenders Bryan Hogan and Shawn Hunwick. Michigan brings back nine of its top ten scorers as well, most notably the one-two punch of CCHA Preseason All-Conference First-Team selections senior forward Carl Hagelin and senior forward Louie Caporusso, who combined for 93 points last season.

The RedHawks are coming off back-to-back appearances in the Frozen Four and return 17 letterwinners, including 2010 RBC CCHA Player of the Year junior Cody Reichard in goal and CCHA Preseason All-Conference First Team selection senior Andy Miele at forward. They also return all seven defensemen from a squad that won 29 games last season, most notably 2010 CCHA Best Defensive Defenseman junior Will Weber and CCHA Preseason All-Conference First-Team member junior Chris Wideman.

The Nanooks bring back 18 players back from the team that qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season and will be led offensively by 2010 CCM CCHA Rookie of the Year Andy Taranto, who set the program record for points by a freshman with 42. Michigan State comes off of a second-place regular-season finish led by sophomore defenseman and team captain Torey Krug, while senior forward Calle Ridderwall, who notched 31 and 27 points in his sophomore and junior campaigns, returns to lead Notre Dame.
