Michigan swept at Showcase

No. 1-ranked Michigan lost a 3-1 decision to No. 2 Wisconsin at the Kohl Center on Saturday and coupled with Friday night's 5-1 defeat at Minnesota, the Wolverines have been swept in the College Hockey Showcase for the second straight year.

Freshman Chad Kolarik scored U-M's lone goal. Sophomore goalie Al Montoya stopped 25 shots in defeat.

"Well, the fans were right, we were overrated," Michigan head coach Red Berenson said. "There's no question about that. We didn't measure up to Minnesota or Wisconsin."

The Wolverines return to CCHA play this weekend when they play a home-and-home series against Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish travel to Ann Arbor for a 7:35 p.m. faceoff on Friday. The second game will take place in South Bend, Ind., on Saturday and will start at 7:05 p.m.

"There are big points on the line here before Christmas break and it's important that we get back on the right foot before we get out of here for Christmas," senior defenseman Brandon Rogers said. "It's going to be two huge weeks and we have to come back ready to play."
