Adrian to build rink, add sports

From this morning's Detroit Free Press...

Adrian College president Jeffrey R. Docking announced that the school is breaking ground next week on the Arrington Ice Arena, a $5.5-million indoor facility located on campus that will allow the college to offer four new sports next school year: varsity men's and women's hockey and synchronized skating, and men's club hockey.

The only other school in Michigan with Division III hockey is Finlandia University in the Upper Peninsula.

"Michigan is a hockey state, and synchronized skating is an up-and-coming sport," Docking said.

The arena is named after brothers Robyn Jr. and Col. Harold Arrington, Adrian alums who donated $3 million.

The start of construction will be Oct. 3. The facility is to open Aug. 1.
