Lakers get commitement from Sharks prospect

The Lake Superior State Lakers received a verbal commitment from well-traveled goaltender Brian Mahoney-Wilson this week.

The native of Roxbury, Mass., split time between Newmarket and Georgetown of the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League last season and posted 10 wins with a 3.29 goals against average and a .905 save percentage.

Mahoney-Wilson was a 2004 draft pick of the San Jose Sharks, a team that sees his uncle Ron Wilson as head coach. Mahoney-Wilson is quick to make it clear, though, that the Sharks were scouting him well before Wilson received his post with the team. He has also seen time in his junior career in the Eastern Junior Hockey League, British Columbia Hockey League and the United States Hockey League.

Mahoney-Wilson will compete for the starting job with Laker sophomore Pat Inglis, who had a solid freshman campaign backing up team MVP Jeff Jakaitis.
