By Matt Mackinder/Michigan State Beat Writer

Senior goalie Jeff Lerg was the difference in both games for Michigan State this weekend as the Spartans went 1-1 at the Icebreaker Tournament in Boston.

Lerg made 36 saves Friday night in a 3-1 win over Massachusetts. Andrew Rowe, Andrew Conboy (first NCAA goal) and Matt Schepke scored and Daultan Leveille chipped in with his first two collegiate assists. Trevor Nill added an assist for his first NCAA point as well.

Brian Keane broke up Lerg's shutout bid with 7:06 to play in the third period.

Saturday night, MSU fell, 2-1, to host Boston University. Lerg kicked out 27 shots and Jeff Petry scored the lone goal on a power play 13:25 into the second period.

Lerg and Petry were both named to the All-Tournament Team for the Spartans (1-1-0).

Michigan State wraps its four-game run against Hockey East teams this week when they host UMass-Lowell on Thursday and Friday at Munn Ice Arena.
