Michigan Tech started a string of seven home games last night against UP rival Northern Michigan and got a much needed tie from the contest. The teams both scored in the middle stanza and both goalies stood strong as the two skated to a 1-1 tie.
Bennett Royer put a slap shot past Brian Stewart and Phil Fox was able to beat Kevin Genoe minutes apart, and that was all she wrote for the scoring.
Both teams were a bit slow out of the gate, but things got rolling after the first 10 minutes of the game. The teams shared chances, but both Stewart and Genoe were up to the task.
MTU was able to kill all five of the NMU power plays and NMU killed all five of MTU's.
Both coaches were very happy with the play of the goalies, with Wildcats head coach Walt Kyle stating "Both goalies played well, I thought we were a bit sluggish early."
Huskies head coach Jamie Russell agreed, saying "Genoe played excellent for us" and complimented Stewart, "I am glad that Stewart is a senior, we do not need to see him again."
MTU (3-18-1, 2-16-0) hosts Anchorage Alaska this weekend, while NMU (9-8-5 overall) takes on Bowling Green in Marquette.
